This has got to be my favourite renovation yet! I mean, decorating our bedroom & office was lovely as we were able to make them so personal. And the hall had such an awesome make over too. But our lounge... oh my, our lounge renovations has been an incredible experience and adventure!
So, the pictures below show what the lounge looked like when we bought the house - very neutral and, in my opinion, very unexciting! We owned a corner sofa, that didn't fit in the room as a corner sofa. So you can also see how we were living with the furniture in the room too (taken in December 2018, so has been moved around to fit better by this point!). We longed to renovate the lounge but finances just wouldn't allow it. We estimated we'd have to wait around 18m-2y, with spending no money on other rooms.
After a truly miraculous financial gain (no other way to describe it!), we had the funds to complete our renovation! Phil gave me full reign on the decor and design of the lounge - his only request was that we had a log burner fitted. Fair enough in my opinion. However, he didn't seem so keen when I said I was going to paint it pink ;)
I had this vision to have a peachy pink room with navy accessories. So I got ordering 100's of different tester paints and searching for navy sofas. We used a Valspar colour picked paint for the walls and a clear varnish for the Oak Beam and door. The light fitting was from IKEA, along with most of the other furniture. I managed to perfectly match our curtains to the sofas, without actually seeing the sofas in person as we had to wait 12 weeks for them! But, you know what, my vision came together!
I had created my vision from two pictures my dad had painted at least 10 years ago. I'd found them when clearing my mum's house with her about 2 years ago and had kept them safe for 'future use'. Little did I know that I would have paintings of my dad's hanging with pride in the lounge of our first home, 6.5 years after he'd passed away. I love it! A little piece of my daddy making my house a home!
I am now truly, madly & deeply in love with our lounge! It's so cosy and peaceful in there - I feel so content curled up in my cosy corner with a blanket and a cup of tea (as I am now, whilst writing this!). Anyone want to join me? ;)
